Landscape Photography, Cairngorms 4 nights

This 4 night luxury photography holiday is based in the stunning and huge Cairngorms National Park. This is a landscape of beautiful Caledonian Pine forests, numerous lochs and stunning mountains. The Rothiemurchus and Abernethy forests are the  largest tract of ancient Caledonian woodland in the UK. Beyond the forest are some of the highest mountains in Britain, many over 4000ft. These hills have huge sweeping plateau and wild, remote corries. The area is also inhabited by unique and wonderful wildlife, in the forests on the  lochs and in high on the mountains.

Our holiday is based in the town of Aviemore which lies on the Northern side of the Cairngorm mountains. Aviemore is very easy to get to being on the A9 just 3 hours North of Edinburgh. If you choose not to drive there are excellent train and bus services on a regular basis from London via Edinburgh from Glasgow. We will be staying in the very comfortable, friendly and traditional Highland Cairngorm Hotel. From our comfortable hotel base we have quick access to many excellent photographic locations.

There will be some easy to moderate walking on excellent paths so an average  fitness level is desirable. Average walking time per day will be in the region of 1 hour with plenty of photography time at various locations across the National Park. There will be an opportunity to walk further into the high mountains if desired, depending on the groups inclination and weather.

Detailed itinerary:

DAY 1.

We meet you at Aviemore train station at 2 pm. Our hotel is just a 1 minute walk across from the station. After check in and relaxing with a drink we will have an afternoon/early evening photography session at Loch Morlich which is just a 10 minute drive from our hotel. Here we get a fabulous panorama of the main Northern Corries of the Cairngorm mountains with Loch Morlich in the foreground. We will also  have time to drive to another location and then a short 15 minute walk to an higher elevation to capture the evening light across The Cairngorms and Rothiemurchus Forest. Dinner will be at our hotel.

DAY 2.

After breakfast we will take a short drive to the beautiful Loch an Eilean. A small lake surrounded by pines with a castle ruin on the small island in the lake. In the afternoon we travel a short distance to another beautiful loch setting in the North of the area.

Dinner at your hotel.

DAY 3.

We take the drive up on the ski road that leaves Aviemore and the top carpark which lies at 635m above sea level. Here we have grand views looking down to Strathspey and the Caledonian Pine Forest. We will walk for approximately 1 hour on easy, well constructed paths that are not steep to one of the corries that lie directly below the main Cairngorm plateau. There are some amazing rock architecture and small lochans. This area is also a great place to spot some of the wildlife we have in The Cairngorms. Notably the Ptarmigan bird and Mountain Hare.

Dinner at your hotel.

DAY 4.

A drive up through the beautiful Glenfeshie. This valley is another forested area containing Scots Pines and deciduous trees. The glen has a beautiful river running through, The River Feshie.
