The Isle of Mull is one of the finest places in Scotland for hillwalking, coastal walks and amazing wildlife. Join Gary Hodgson has many years experience of walking and wildlife watching on this Hebridean gem. Gary also lived in Tobermory (the main town on Mull) for 3 years, exploring the beautiful landscapes and amazing wildlife. Join me on this fully inclusive 6 day walking and wildlife holiday ( 5 full days of guided walking and wildlife watching). There is ample scope for any budding photography enthusiasts, for landscape and wildlife.
The group size for this holiday is limited to just 4 people. This tour will book very quickly.
Arrival Day
Your holiday on Mull starts mid afternoon when we meet you at Craignure ferry terminal. Craignure is where the main ferry to from Oban arrives. It's then just a short drive (approx 30 minutes) to your luxury accommodation for 6 nights. All guests will have their own rooms, no single supplements. There are 2 x single rooms and a twin bedded room for 1 x couple (or 2 friends). Accommodation is in a wonderful lodge in a tranquil spot well located to walking & wildlife locations.
Once you've settled in and after tea/coffee & cake we can take a late afternoon short walk for some wildlife watching and photography close to our lodge.
Day 2
Coastal walking & Otter watching
It is said that Mull is the best place to see Otters in the UK. This is true, but like any wildlife you have to put some work in. Otters are relatively shy creatures. This is where fieldcraft and patience once again play a big part. Knowing where Otters usually hang out is also good knowledge. Time of day can be important too, especially with regards to the tides. Otters will more often than not be seen amongst the kelp and seaweed. They can be seen near ferry piers and walls too! Of course luck can be mixed into the equation. We will have a full day devoted to some spectacular, short, coastal walking and otter watching/photography at various locations.
Day 3
Ben More hill walk
Ben More is the only Munro ( a mountain over 3,000 ft) on the Island of Mull. It is also the only Munro on a Scottish Island outwith the Isle of Skye. On this full day of hillwalking will will climb to the summit and along the way there is an excellent opportunity to spot White Tailed Sea Eagles. The walk starts at sea level so we climb all 3000 ft! It's a straightforward and relitively easy walk if you have good fitness and walk regularly. The views are stupendous.
Day 4
Puffins
We will take a boat journey this morning to the beautiful Isle of Lunga where (in my opinion) the finest place in the British Isles to see and photograph the adorable and charismatic Atlantic Puffin. It is an hour long journey over to the wee island of Lunga which forms part of the Treshnish Isles. We have 3 hours on Lunga. There are also Razorbills, Shags & Guillemots on these isles so if you can tear yourself away from the puffins for a bit it is worth exploring and photographing other birds nearby. If we are lucky we may see Common Seals and Dolphins on our journey to and from Lunga.
In the afternoon we will have time to seek out Otters and birds of prey when back on Mull before heading to dinner.
Day 5
Hillwalking
Another hillwalking day today. Not every hill needs to be a Munro! Mull also has some beautiful, smaller hills on offer and the view from these are just has beautiful and stunning. We have plenty of options on where we go, depending on weather and how the group feel.
Day 6
Coastal walk
We are spoilt for choice on low level, coastal walks on Mull. There is a huge coastline with many choices of interesting walks. We can also combine two different walks on this day and another excellent opportunity to see wildlife along the coast.
