Gary Hodgson is a photographer specialising in Landscape and Wildlife.Thank you for looking at my website. I run Wildlife & Landscape Photography ScotlandBased in Aviemore which lies within The Cairngorms National Park, Scotland. On my doorstep I have some of the finest mountain and forest scenery in the British Isles. My favourite places to capture the Scottish landscape are wild and remote mountain tops. It is here that most of my best images have been produced.
The Scottish Highlands, in particular The Cairngorms National Park, also have some of the most diverse and unique wildlife. The Ptarmigan and Mountain Hare are my two favourite subjects to photograph. I regularly guide workshops in summer and winter to capture these beautiful and hardy animals.
I started taking photographs in my late teenage years, well before digital cameras. Way back then I shot mostly transparency film (slides) in the days when you had to wait a day or two before you found out if that magical image was indeed magical.
My style of photography is capturing the landscape in all seasons with big wide angled images. Trends come and go. I use very little editing. Composition, subject and light is everything. I love to seek out my own scenes and very rarely shoot 'roadside' and popular locations.
I also run my own mountain guiding company,
Tarmachan Mountaineering. For almost 30 years I have been guiding and instructing groups of all ages and abilities in the mountains of Scotland and further afield. With my mountain leadership qualifications, vast amount of experience and people care you can be assured of a safe time on all of my workshops that I run high up on the mountains.
My images have been published in several popular outdoor magazines, web articles and newspaper features including:
Trail Magazine
Trek & Mountain
UK Climbing
Ordnance Survey Maps
BBC News
The Times
The Scotsman
The Express
